A few months ago, one of my family members thought that all my perfume talk meant that I wanted to make my own scents. I quickly corrected her—no, I am not interested in the chemistry of it all. And that’s not to say I’m not into science. Science is great! Yay, science! But I don’t want to dabble in it when it comes to perfume, I’m strictly in it for the vibes and the vibes only.

Case in point: Soda Snob and Swede Tooth, both of which come from the secret menu of brand Snif.
I’m a fan of multiple Snif scents (some more than others, but that’s a conversation for another day), but the standouts, imho, are these two. First up:
As a brand, Snif feels like an entity that, from a distance, might be too cool for me. When I get closer, they’re all ‘Lol, why would you think that, come hang out!’ like a chill upperclassman with enough self-confidence to befriend whoever they want (even me, an awkward underclassman with a schedule of nerdy advanced classes).
Soda Snob

I don’t think it’s ever occurred to me to smell like cola. In fact, up until this year, I’d have probably tried to avoid it (you’d think it would attract bees?).
However, there is something so compelling about wearing a scent that’s familiar but still brings a perfume-y twist. It’s accessible but still intriguing, like the moose that shows up in my backyard sometimes (are you sure you’re supposed to be here? Ok, welcome sir, I love you but please don’t hurt me).
It’s not so realistic that people will think you spilled a drink on yourself, but it does channel the familiar smell, and cushions it with warm and spicy notes.
And, like actual cola drinks, this scent is also very fun to mix with other things. I like to dabble with cherry and vanillas scents or sometimes citrus.
Or (drumroll):
Swede Tooth

I sort of lost my sh*t when this fragrance was announced. I love watermelon, so much so that it’s the only food I will actually prep ahead for myself, and in the summer it’s not unusual to find multiple containers of pre-cut bites stacked in my fridge. So, learning this it was a focal point of a Snif fragrance had me very excited. I ordered a sample and was not disappointed.
Now, this is super sweet, which I tend to like in my fragrances, but I do recognize that it won’t be for everyone. I, however, love scents that could easily be marketed to tweens, and this is absolutely that.
The watermelon note is definitely the strongest to my nose, but it’s nestled in there with the candy sugar in an almost creamy way. it’s delightful on its own, or with an absolute plethora of other scents.
Together, these two fragrances smell like a 90s roller rink, complete with a Janet Jackson soundtrack, flashing colorful lights, dingy carpet, and those toy machines filled with plastic bubbles containing sticky hands. But a mature version.

Like, perhaps I’m sitting on a waxy bench, unlacing my skates at the end of an epic skating session, and I catch a whiff of my friend’s super-hip mom as she walks by looking for my friend’s brother, because she’s picking all of us up in their wood-paneled minivan, and she needs to hurry up and find him or she’ll be late to Jazzercise.
If that’s what you want to smell like, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better pairing.
